A nice sequence of a LaGG-3 taking off and going into action. Notice the beautiful reflexes on the surfaces and the high detailed terrain and clouds.

The accidents are much more realistic than in CFS. If you touch another plane or
building in CFS-1 or CFS-2 it explodes instantly. (dont know in CFS-3, havent
checked that out as yet). Here in IL-2 the damage profiles are much more
realistic, with entire wing and fuselage sections breaking off.
Off runway accident during takeoff. I crashed right after raising gear, the
plane turned all the way over breaking a wing and the tail off.The fuel tank is
reported as leaking.
The leaking fuel tank soon turns into a fire which wounds the player more and
more as the minutes pass, killing you at last unless you bail out.

The explosions are good too. I shot my wingmen in the back to get this picture.
Notice the smoke tracers and radio messages on top. The radio communications are
recorded in german and in russian, but always with english text translation.

The visual details and the flight models are very good. It includes many effects
that werent present or at least not so realistic in the microsoft CFS.
Attacking a russian bomber... a Pe-2, isnt it?? Someone else is also shooting at
him, see the tracers on the right.

Beautiful view of a strafing run on a russian train. Here you can appreciate the
tracers as well.
